Avatar

“Avatar” is a 2009 American science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang. “Avatar” is the movie which received “The Best Director” and other awards in 2010. I watched this movie in the cinema which shows great effects in 3D.

The plot of this movie is situated on Pandora. It is year 2154. Pandora is an Earth-like moon of the planet Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri star system. Parker Selfridge heads the mining operation, which employs the military for security. Pandora's atmosphere is toxic to humans, forcing them to use breathing masks. Pandora is inhabited by the Na'vi, tall blue-skinned species of sapient humanoids, who live in harmony with nature. To facilitate relations with the Na'vi and research of Pandora's biosphere, scientists grew Na'vi-human hybrids called avatars, controllable of mental link by genetically matching humans.

This movie has a lot beautiful music fit to different kinds of scenes. The beautiful music fascinated us. Sometimes we could see some moments as it wasn’t realistic. A very good side of this movie are special effects, which carried us over to the film world.
“Avatar” is a very interesting movie for people who like plots connecting realistic and fantastic elements. I was captivated by this story. Although the movie has been criticises by some, I really enjoyed that I had watched it. I am sure that you would like it too.

Divergent

I have just finished watching a wonderful movie, which is called ‘Divergent’ directed by Neil Burger. It is based on a bestseller written by Veronica Roth. It tells a story about a girl, Beatrice Prior, who lives in a world which is divided into five different factions. Each of them has a certain role in the city and a different set of values. The first one and the one that the main character was born in is Abnegation which values selflessness , Erudite – knowledge, Dauntless – courage, Candor – honesty and Amity – peace. Every year there is a special event called Choosing Ceremony, when every person that turned 16 decides to which faction they want to belong. To help them with that difficult choice they attend earlier an aptitude test, where they are put under the simulation and based on what choices they make each fraction one by one is ruled out until there is only one they best fit in. Sometimes however the results show the rare quality of equal attributes of multiple factions  - it is called divergence. That means the brains of those group of people work in different, independent way and the government cannot control them and they are considered as threats to the existing social order. As you may assume Beatrice was Divergent, so she really struggled with the choice and finally she decided to become Dauntless. In order to do so you have to complete the initiation and if you don’t you become factionless, which in one’s opinions is worse than death.

The film is mainly about Beatrice’s adventures during the Dauntless initiation but, which is really exciting and sometimes also thrilling. The ending however is very surprising and unexpected. I really loved the idea of this story, which is very creative.  I would like to recommend this film as well as the book.
